For standard website photos, blog images, and product thumbnails, lossy compression is ideal because it drastically reduces file size with virtually no noticeable drop in visual quality.

Recommended Quality

80–85

This is the sweet spot. The human eye can barely distinguish it from the original, while file sizes are often significantly smaller than JPEG.

Hero / High-Impact Images

85–90

Best for large main banners or high-resolution photos where fine detail is critical. Going above 90 can increase file size quickly with only small visual improvements.

General Thumbnails / Speed Optimization

A solid choice for mobile environments or smaller images where page-load speed is the top priority.
